Equinix has launched a data center in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n
The company officially opened HK6, its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data center in the Tsuen Wan area of the Chinese territory, this week.<\/p>\n
With an initial investment of US$124 million, Equinix said HK6 can host up to 1,000 racks in its first phase. The facility will be able to host up to 3,550 racks at full build-out across 41,600 sq ft (3,865 sqm).<\/p>\n
The 18-story facility is located at 18 Sha Tsui Road, within 2km of HK1, 2, and 3. Equinix first announced plans for the facility in 2024.<\/p>\n

The purpose-built facility is equipped with liquid cooling to handle high-density workloads.<\/p>\n
HK6 includes an open testing environment where enterprises and startups can build, test, validate, and scale AI applications across a neutral, efficient hybrid and multi-cloud environment.<\/p>\n
Equinix entered Asia in 2002, acquiring i-STT and Pihana Pacific, the latter of which opened a data center in Hong Kong in 2001. Equinix\u2019s HK2 launched around 2011.<\/p>\n
According to Equinix\u2019s latest earnings presentation, all six of the company\u2019s Hong Kong facilities are leased. HK2, 3, 4, and 5 are all listed as stabilized.<\/p>\n
The company added liquid cooling capabilities to HK1 in an upgrade alongside Schneider Electric last year.<\/p>\n
